Around 160,000 new listings from across Pakistan are added to the website every month.

Zameen.com, Pakistan’s largest property website, has crossed the 2 million property listings mark. This vast growth in reach and scope has brought the country’s real estate investors face-to-face with options from virtually every corner of the country.

The website has exhibited impressive growth over the last year, posting massive gains in all metrics such as paying agencies and traffic. Around 160,000 new listings from across Pakistan are added to the website every month.

Highlighting a particular focus on the quality of the content on offer, Zameen.com’s senior management said every new listing is carefully vetted by a large, dedicated operations team comprising quality control staff, photographers and data entry operators.

“As we celebrate the 2 millionth listing on Zameen.com since the website’s inception, we are humbled but not surprised. While in Pakistan, Government is yet to officially launch an investment fund for startups which was announced last year

PM Narendra Modi on Saturday unveiled the ambitious ‘Startup India’ initiative to boost startup businesses and digital entrepreneurship in India. A few significant features of the plan are as follows:

Tax Exemption for Startups: Profit of startups set up after 1st April, 2016 will be exempted from income tax for a period of three years. Investment of one’s own wealth will also be exempted from Capital Gains tax.

Fund for Startups: The Government will set up a fund with a corpus of Rs. 2500 crore to support growth of startups. The fund will have a total corpus of Rs 10,000 crore over four years.

Self-certification based compliance: Startups will be allowed to self-certify compliance with labour and environmental laws. There will be no inspection during the first three years of launch of a venture.

Startup India Hub: A single point of contact for interactions with the government.

Mobile App: A mobile app will be launched on 1st April to simplify the process of registration. It will contain a small application form which can be filled up for registering a startup in one day.

Faster Patents: Filing patents and intellectual property claims takes months. This process will be simplified through a fast-track mechanism for startups. Patent fee will be reduced by 80% and cost of legal facilitators for startups will be borne by the government.

Easier Exits: The government is trying to make faster exits for startups in case of failure. A bill will be introduced in the Parliament to facilitate exits in 90 days.

Relaxed Norms for Public Procurement: Startups will be exempted from the criteria of prior experience in order to help them compete with experienced companies in public procurement. Quality, however, will not be compromised.

Credit Guarantee: A credit guarantee scheme of Rs. 500 crore per year will be launched to patronise entrepreneurship for the next four years.

Atal Innovation Mission: The mission aims at promoting research and development. It includes 500 tinkering labs, 35 public-private sector incubators, 31 innovation centres at national institutes, 7 new research parks, 5 new bio-clusters.

Women Participation: The government will try to increase participation of women in startups.

Innovation Programmes: Core innovation programmes will be organized in 5 lakh schools to encourage innovation. Startup festivals will be organized to increase visibility.

Mann Mayal is a serial to look out for in 2016 owing to its fabulous star cast and the large budget allotted to it for production

In the past couple of years, television has turned into a highly profitable, cash-generating industry in Pakistan. Pakistani television serials have not only been appreciated by the local audience, but also received critical acclaim worldwide which has resulted in several new entrants feeling comfortable exploring their passion for this field. 2016 will be seeing ace wardrobe stylist Sana Shahnawaz venturing into production with the serial Mann Mayal, which has been co-produced by Samina Humayun Saeed and Momina Duraid.

Sana ShahnawazBesides her production being backed by the two biggest producers of the country, Sana al-so has an equally impressive star cast to boast of. Mann Mayal, which has been directed by Haseeb Khan [of Diyar-e-Dil fame], will be seeing Hamza Ali Abbassi, Aisha Khan, Goher Rasheed, Maya Ali, Saba Hameed, Ismat Zaidi, Talat Hussain , Aiman Khan, Laila Zuberi, Sheheryar Zaidi, Mehmood Aslam, and Lubna Aslam coming together on screen. The serial has been written by visionary writer Samira Fazal. The OST of Mann Mayal has been penned by veteran writer Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar and crooned by singing power-house Qurat-ul-Ain Baloch, popularly known as QB. The serial, which will be airing on HUM TV from 22nd January 2016, has already generated a lot of hype on social media ever since its promo has been aired.

Being a part of the same family actor/producer Humayun Saeed and his wife Samina Humayun Saeed belong to, Sana has not only grown up seeing her family mem-bers successfully manage high profile productions but has also herself worked as the ward-robe stylist and style director on over 40 projects. Her most recent work includes the 2015 blockbuster Jawani Phir Nahin Ani.

Asia’s first Smartphone Film Festival was held in Karachi

Pakistan secured 8th position in Asia’s first ever Smartphone Film Festival, which was held yesterday evening here at the Pak American Cultural Centre (PACC) in Karachi. Organized in Pakistan by the iSmart Films, the Festival was the world’s 9th pocket cinema film festival, which featured only those films and movies which were produced by young filmmakers from all over the world using their mobile phone devices only.

A total of 1058 films were submitted from over 110 countries, where in Hassan Zaidi from Lahore, Pakistan got an 8th position for his documentary film titled “Colors of death,” which is about the ‘coloured chickens’ sold after dyeing in the pet market in Lahore.

Among the top five winning films of the Festival were ‘Oven Glove’ from Ireland, ‘CHASM’ and ‘How to rob the house’ from the United States, ‘Sector Zero 4’ from Spain, and ‘Gloomy boy’ from France

Launched in Jun this year, the last date of film submission was December 5, while the entries were judged by a panel of filming experts, including Shahzad Nawaz, Jami Mehmood, Furqan T. Siddiqui, Adil Murad, Yousuf Bashir Qureshi, and others. Awards were conferred to the top 10 films selected. Among the media partners of the Smartphone Film Festival were the Jang Media Group, GEO TV, FM91, FM107 and Tune.pk.

The submitted films were screened at nine different venues, including the Karachi Youth Support Network (KYSN), DotZero, DCTO Academy, Nazeer Hussain University (NHU), the Pak American Cultural Centre (PACC), and the Arena Multimedia, Karachi.

The Smartphone Film Festival was hosted by the iSmart Films in collaboration with seven international festivals from the United States, Spain, New Zealand, France, Macedonia, etc. In the festival, the ‘School of Smartphone Film Production’ was also inaugurated, followed by the launching of a ‘Web TV’. The iSmart Films unveiled its ‘Video Resume Portal’ in the event, including the launching of different portals for videos, news, and online shopping.

The iSmart Films has recently introduced ‘Mobile Journalism’ in Pakistan, an emerging form of filmmaking and new media storytelling where pocket-sized communication devices with network connectivity are used to capture, gather, edit and distribute shots and visuals.

The Nescafé Basement jam room has been welcoming some very exciting guests the past week! Popular radio and television host Sophiya Anjam visited the jam room a few days back, which was followed by a visit from the charismatic radio host Sumayrah Khan. Both enjoyed their time immensely and clicked some fun images with the young talented musicians. Along with them, many others like bloggers, social media influencers, editors, also visited the jam room – making their experience and interaction ‘the talk of the town.’

Speaking about her experience of visiting the Nescafé Basement Jam Room, Sophiya Anjam stated, “The platform is amazing and it discovers such amazing talent of Pakistan. For me, it was quite a great experience – coming to the jam room, interacting with the artists and getting to know them more on a personal level. The talent is immense and I’m looking forward to Nescafé Basement Season 4.”

The audience has been getting glimpses of the upcoming season of Nescafé Basement through the jam room images that have been circulating on social media. Mentor Xulfi has termed this season his favorite so far as it has the highest number of musicians [46] and has various new instruments incorporated which will surely result in a fresh unique new sound.

Speaking about how the jams are shaping up so far, Xulfi stated, “The jams are the most exciting phase of Nescafé Basement. It’s the time when all the artists, unknown to each other, start making and playing music together and in that period, bond and become friends. And that spirit of friendship is the catalyst in the creation of music that’s closer to the heart. Like all seasons, this one also adds a great feeling to the jam room. The artists reach early; go back late. That’s what a jam should do, make people want to play more music. And that’s what Nescafé Basement keeps aiming to do as well; inspiring the youth to keep music in them alive.”

Release comes as the french star signs major deal with the pan-asian film & music awards academy PAIFMA

The immensely anticipated music video for French pop-star Abbas Hasan’s latest single Sweet Girl is out and delivers on its promise of glamour. From the skyscrapers of Europe to elegant red carpets, the video boasts of some lavish locations. Abbas and his co-star Armeena Rana Khan have been styled by international stylist Prangsta, both looking chic.

Helmed by esteemed Persian video director Amir Taherian, Sweet Girl begins with Armeena Rana Khan seeing Abbas on-screen with another girl (cameo appear-ance by Humaima Malick from a scene of Away’s video). Thus starts a dark journey of obsession and black magic, in which Armeena plays a double-role, both trying to seduce Abbas.

Speaking about the video of Sweet Girl, Abbas says “It was so much fun filming Sweet Girl with Armeena. We’ve known each other well through modeling, and I knew Armeena would be perfect at playing the innocent angel as well as the dark any mysterious vampish beauty.”

In true Abbas style, Sweet Girl is in Urdu-English and starts out with some vocals in French. It has been produced with Rishi Rich’s protégé Naamless, and the highly en-joyable pop song has some hints of Arabic music in it. The official radio partner in Pakistan for this release is FM91.
